Highlighting Central Florida's nonprofit news and events. Got a tip or want to write for us? Contact

As Floridians, we know about hurricanes. We had our moment earlier this month when Hurricane Irma ripped through the state.

Life is back to normal for most of us in Central Florida. And so it’s time to help our fellow Americans who need it in Puerto Rico.

Getting the local newspaper or television station to cover your nonprofit event is sometimes a challenge.

I should know, because for nearly a dozen years I worked as a local reporter – first in newspapers and then in television. I was the guy making decisions on what to cover and what not to cover. And I can’t tell you how many times I had to turn down covering nonprofit events. After all, there was only one of me and sometimes what seemed like 700 different events over the course of a weekend.
